It’s an outdoors person’s paradise! When you stay with us at Quintinha Carvalhal, you’re in the centre of so many things to do, starting with exploring the countryside from our front door. Stroll to the nearby river for a refreshing swim, or relax on the river beach that has been rated as a “Blue Flag Beach” which is a number one rating. There is even a friendly bar or two where you can sit and enjoy a beverage. You can walk and hike for kilometres along well-marked trails, scale challenging hills, go kayaking, test your physical prowess mountain biking or rock climbing, and even be part of history by strolling along an ancient Roman road. Walk to the charming shops in nearby Góis or drive to other villages in the region, including a not-to-miss visit to the world-famous Xisto (pronounced shis-too) villages in which the buildings have been crafted from centuries-old “schist”, a layered formation of crystalline rock.
A picturesque 43 km drive takes you to the beautiful city of Coimbra where you can spend an unforgettable day exploring its unique shops and historic landmarks, for example, the Coimbra University established in 1537 which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The area around Quintinha Carvalhal is alive with celebrations of sport all year round. Races of all types abound; from downhill running to car rallies to off-road Jeep and motorcycle competitions. In August of each year, our community hosts a massive motorcycle rally: The Góis Motorcycle Concentration – famously known as the second-largest concentrations of bikes in all of Portugal. And you can be part of it all when you stay with us at Quintinha Carvalhal.
